Kyowa Hakko Wins NutrAward For Cognizin™

March 6, 2004

Cognizin™ voted best new ingredient by Nutracon attendees

New York, N.Y. – Kyowa Hakko, one of the world leaders in the development, manufacturing and marketing of pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals and food products, was awarded the 2003 NutrAward for the best new innovative ingredient of the year at Nutracon, the premier scientific education and networking conference, on March 6.

Cognizin™ citicoline was voted number one by the attendees of Nutracon 2004 in Anaheim, CA, at the Anaheim Convention Center. Voting was based on scientific merit, efficacy, safety, innovation, market potential, and its ability to increase industry credibility.

Kyowa Hakko participated in the Nutracon poster session featuring a Cognizin™ brand citicoline study using the Morris Water Maze, a cylindrical water-filled pool with a hidden underwater platform to research the memory capacity of mice. The study focused on the tendency of mice to memorize the platform location and to mount it from the water.

Developed by Kyowa Hakko, Cognizin™ brand citicoline is a novel and powerful anti-aging ingredient that has been used internationally for the beneficial action toward neurodegenerative disorders associated with stroke, cerebrovascular pathology, brain aging and head trauma.

Kyowa Hakko has developed new commercial techniques using fermentation technology to produce Cognizin™. Scientific studies have indicated effectiveness in treating Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease and improved stroke recuperation, as well as ocular health.

Dr. Alexander G. Schauss, PhD, director, Natural and Medicinal Products Research, Life Sciences Division, American Institute for Biosocial and Medical Research Inc., and leading scientific expert on the health benefits of citicoline, has been a major proponent of citicoline use.

Dr. Schauss has discussed the capabilities citicoline has shown in maintaining cognitive brain function such as memory loss and its ability to support cardiovascular health.
